TANZ IN DEN MAI!
Testing… testing. Is this thing on?
I’ve missed blogging. Macro-blogging, that is. A few of you might remember that I used to blog for about 2-3 years on Xanga. Even more of you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about. But either way… it just felt right to get into this again.
There will be a few posts about Music/Guitar. There will be a lot of posts about Food. Adventure. Endless prattle. Exceedingly more than you can think or imagine.
We shall also talk about POLITICS! And we shall also talk about RELIGION! I promise, I won’t be trying to agitate you on purpose. It might happen, but if it does, it wasn’t for the fun of it. If you decide to opt-out now, I respect that. But if you don’t mind getting involved in the discussion, that’s absolutely great, and hopefully the comment form that I just installed will work properly for you. Let me know if you have any issues with it.
Here’s something I think we can all agree on though. Check out what I picked up this past week:

Pretty sweet, huh?
I’ve been thinking about getting a small, low-wattage amp for awhile. Wanted to try out an AC15; something about that felt right. 15 watts. EL84s. $600.
Don’t laugh, but I walked into a Guitar Center (I said, “Don’t laugh.”) thinking they’d have one I could kick around for a bit. The man says, “We just sold our last one this past weekend.” I’ve heard that so many times verbatim that I never believe it anymore. That, and, “Oh… these are great. I love them. In fact, I own one of them myself.”
Anyhow, I walk into a little isolation booth and see this Hiwatt sitting there, ticketed at $499. “Wait a second, I’m pretty sure these retail brand-new around $2,700. What’s the story?”
Plugged-in, and within 15 seconds, I knew that this amp was the one. It just… it had IT. The X Factor. Looked it up on my phone to see what they go for new, and I was close. Called Owen for a little moral support. “Thom? What are you waiting on? Pull the trigger.”
The trigger got pulled. I took it home with me. Really looking forward to using it at future shows, and even some recording. In fact, I think it’ll really shine in a recording situation. I’m starting to play guitar again in church more often, so it can’t be bad to have around in those situations either.
For a 20 watt 1x10 combo amp, I can’t believe how ballsy this thing sounds.
Not that I wouldn’t love an AC15, but this little Hiwatt definitely carries a little more ego than a Vox would.
Maybe I’ll shoot video of me playing through it soon and post it.
